LeĆ³n Municipality signs organization agreement for the International Children’s Games 2024.
For the first time in over 50 years, these global games will come to the American continent. Ale GutiĆ©rrez signed the agreement alongside Igor Topole, President of the International Children’s Games.
Leon, Guanajuato. – As part of the celebration of the Traditional Parade for the 113th Anniversary of the Mexican Revolution, the signing of an agreement for the organization of the International Children’s Games, to be held from July 15 to 20, 2024, took place.
For the first time in over 50 years, these global games will come to the American continent. Ale GutiĆ©rrez signed the agreement alongside Igor Topole, President of the International Children’s Games.
“We are delighted to be hosting the Children’s Games next year. They will find a city even more beautiful than it already is, equipped with sports and road infrastructure. Undoubtedly, participants and visitors will enjoy both the city and this grand event. Thanks to the organization for trusting in Leon,” said the Mayor, Ale GutiĆ©rrez, who led this agreement signing.
Isaac PiƱa, head of the Municipal Commission of Physical Culture and Sports (COMUDE Leon), thanked Mayor Ale GutiĆ©rrez for believing in Leon’s sports. Besides the historic investment for the maintenance and renovation of sports facilities and spaces, she has managed to make a city active. “Here, a project is being led with a vision in favor of the Municipality through sports. Here in Leon, public policies are implemented, and we have been put on the international sports stage.”
Similarly, Igor Topele, President of the International Children’s Games, did not doubt that Leon will be even more beautiful in eight months. He also believes it will be a magnificent event. “We are confident that Leon will host a great event because they already feel the warmth and attention. Leon is aware of the importance of these Children’s Games, as they are the first to be held in the American continent in 56 years,” highlighted the head of these games.
The Children’s Games will feature competitions in seven disciplines: athletics, 3×3 basketball, 6-a-side football, swimming, tennis, taekwondo, and indoor volleyball. A total of 2,500 athletes between the ages of 12 and 15, from five continents, are expected to participate.
The last edition was held in Daegu, Korea. In this 2023 edition, the city of Leon participated with 18 athletes, 4 coaches, and one delegate.
